Mini Matters, a miniature painting podcast. >> Oh, welcome back guys. Episode 15. Christmas is fast approaching as you know. We we are now on the comedown of post >> I guess event syn the thing would be but you know we are fully fleshed out of of events and we have no foreseeable events planned. Um how are you two? Pretty good. >> Brilliant. >> Yeah. I I I wanted to to apologize to you and your family and the damage I've caused uh by showing you Alden Ring.
>> Well, no one knows. >> I think it's an excusable uh damage and unfixable damage that I caused. >> We will get there in uh in the news. Fear not. Um yeah, it's been a fantastic week to be honest with you. I am still here and I'm I'm still happy. So, wow. I [laughter] I couldn't ask for much more. >> Two for two, man. That's amazing. >> Feels pretty good if I'm honest. >> Yeah, >> it does feel pretty good. >> We >> Did you do any painting?
>> So, [clears throat] I'll quickly uh I'll quickly just uh tell you what we have planned. Uh and then you'll forget about that hopefully that question. So, we have two new segments this week. One, we're only going to sprinkle a flavor of what the new segment will be because I need to collect all the research I did. And the other segment is called what I'm listening to. And it's just where I se all it is is I tell you what album I'm listening to mostly, >> okay, >> this week. And now you guys, this isn't an exclusive look Hutba thing. If you want to partake in this, you can because then I feel like it builds up >> some sort of understanding of what music you like.
>> Yeah. Yeah, I could do. >> Don't have to. Um, we also got Dr. Mr. Love Brush, >> obviously. Rockbusters, >> of course. >> Okay. >> Uh, Dr. Brush Love and and now it's a few other things. So, >> I've actually I've got it written down as Dr. Lovebrush. >> I Yeah, I mean Different cultures change, sir, and everything. [snorts] Um, >> he might be a mister. >> He is a mister. >> Or maybe not. >> In my head, he was firmly a dude.
There's no way that was a chick. I mean, you're right. Doctor is is gender neutral. Uh, >> Dr. Brush Love. >> Dr. Brush Love. He's a bloke. It's a fucking like middle-aged wellto-do sexy man. I mean it >> well to do definitely in this specific case we're the doctors giving people our expert opinions and we're >> quite manly. >> Yes. >> Yeah. You're not wearing a coat a white coat and you're not like 6' three with a beard maybe Italian but still respectable. Um not to say Italians aren't respectable.
That's the kind of dude. Do you know like he's like a model from a Chanel advert, >> right? >> In my head is Indian, but it's probably because I live in London. [laughter] >> Yeah, that's fair. >> But also, would you go to an Indian doctor about paint things? Like, how many Indian painters do we know? >> I I I genuinely don't know a single one. >> You do know one. >> He's not Indian. >> He's not even painting. Lionel doesn't count. I mean, he is he is tech. He's going, isn't he? I think he's Yeah. >> Probably not born there, though. So, yeah.
>> True. True. But he >> he is in No. All right. He's the only man in the world that paints. >> Yeah. Okay. Yeah. >> And he's not a doctor. So, actually >> an actual doctor and he was and he happened to be Indian and he was offering painting advice. I would ab I would absolutely go there 100%. >> I was imagining Lionel to be fair, like slightly gray hair on the on the sides, you know, very handsome. >> He is also incredibly handsome and unbelievably fit. I don't think people realize this because he's usually wearing clothes >> because we always see him naked. >> So, people miss out.
>> First thing is the first thing when we when we arrive at the home now, >> I have to say after watching um Chad Powers, I realized how much I miss having showers with dudes. Like obviously you've got the pee pee hole scene, right? And I don't know, like I don't believe in exhibitionism and um flaunting your stuff and and that thing where you just like a naked like all of you are naked and you live naked for 5 months in a camp or something. I don't really get that. But there's something quite fun about just being naked with a load of other dudes.
>> To be fair, I've seen you bat ass naked like three times, I think. >> What a show. [laughter] Well, well, not in the show at the show. But yeah, so our listeners understand. >> I guess I'm desperate to rekindle that relationship. [laughter] Like I'm like, "Oh, uh, whoops." Yeah. I I I just saw it in Chad Powers and and I just thought about it the other day when I was cuz I where I live in the in this flat. I've got a flat like I guess it's like 12 mters away from me, another block of flats. And I always walk around naked in my flat, but I like and and when I'm and then I'm like, but this isn't the same. Do you know what I mean?
Like that. I don't really want to give those people who aren't expecting nakedness nakedness. It's not the same. Whereas when you're on the shower, you slap a few asses and they go, Jay, what the fuck are you doing? You're like, nah. But it's it's it's you've been showering for 10 years, so you know it. So don't pretend you didn't expect that. And dare say I want it. Anyway,
so I was thinking, how do you define our podcast? And I think that we >> You don't. You absolutely don't. Just I'll just throw it out there. >> Just leave it. We >> Yeah. Well, do you not want to? Do you want to Do you want to >> No, I was thinking we we're just three mates talking pro first foremost with a slight sprinkle of bullshit on paint. >> That's what I think we are. >> Yeah. >> Like >> that sounds about right. The painting is an excuse to get together basically.
But, and that's a big butt. Um, I used Yeah. We've had some massive like influential breakthroughs in our sessions that have enabled us to paint. >> Yeah. >> Do you know what I mean? >> Yeah. Of course. >> So, I think I think it's working well. I think out of the three of us, I'm I'm I'm still waiting for our now to via this podcast find like a true awakening in the in the painting uh hobby.
>> I'm not even kidding. I I I I really think that I did some some breakthrough in the last >> Yes, you did. >> That's what I think Martin was setting you up to >> to hit it at. That's what I feel like. >> Well, yeah, but also I was trying to Yeah. No, I was just saying like maybe that had less to do with this podcast and more to do with just you painting all the time and being as No, that was because of us, right? >> I think it it was both. I mean, >> okay. Both is good. >> Yeah. >> I'll take both. Yeah.
>> Yeah. My my daughter is >> Is that the cat or is that a person? >> Yeah. >> Uh yeah. So, I think it's both. Um, I think talking about about stuff and and you know when talking about it out loud, it it kind of makes more effect than if you just think about it. >> I completely agree. Would you say on that topic that sometimes when you give other people advice, you're hearing yourself give that advice and you're like, that was a good piece of advice to yourself. I mean like like >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's happened to me when I tell someone something and I'm like, "Hm, that sounds pretty good." >> And not only that, but when when I when I want to to see things in other people.
>> Yeah. >> Uh I always think about it in in in my own like am I doing it enough as well? Like for example, if I want that painter to do ex thing because I think it would be cool or I think he's stuck or anything. First I think, do do I do it? So could I could I improve it first myself to to not need him to do it before me, you know? >> And >> but do you feel like you might be a bit hypocritical if you give someone else advice and you're not doing it yourself?
>> No, no, it's not about hypocritical because it's not about feedback. It's it's more about me needing or wanting it, wanting to see it. Right. And >> usually if I'm if I'm if I if I'm needing it myself, I should applying it first in my figures so I don't have that need >> outside if you know what I mean. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Um wasn't the breakthrough moment one of mine or ours that we shared the whole No, it was yours. the epiphany. That was when it was when you you realized you were I can't remember what it was, but this is before you broke it.
>> Yeah. No, it was it was actually when I was painting the the metallic that I was seeing myself uh being a chicken and >> we' literally spoken about that a week before, right? Or something. >> Yes. Yes. Yes. Two weeks. Yeah. >> Stop being Yeah. Stop being a chicken. [laughter] >> I wish I could remember. And it turned out very well because the the post with the no metallic >> blew my my Instagram. It got shared,500 times that [laughter] 1500 times >> and it's not an RKON. It's not which it was also but you know it's a very random point.
>> I'd love to know. >> Yeah. This is literally something that I did in one day.
>> Yeah. So that right there is kind of our now in in a nutcase. >> I'd love to know >> if what he's about. I mean most people are here. >> Yeah. What he's about >> to learn exactly what he's about. Now I' I'd love to know the knock on effect of the sales. I know cuz obviously it's a box art, right? We we we buy these things to promote the model. Um, >> and I've never ever really apart I've never felt there's a huge correlation like with the models, Dragon Head Models, the stuff that you did are now sold just as well without a box art.
So, it's a weird >> it's it's about the reach. It's not uh as much about the >> exposure, isn't it? >> So, >> yeah, >> it's literally exposure. this this [snorts] with this figure, I got 2,000 followers. 2,000 new followers just with that with that post. >> 3,000. Damn. >> Yeah. It's fucking mind-blowing. So >> that's crazy. >> And it got shared. Yeah. Something >> learn how to paint [laughter] >> or actually start.
>> [laughter] >> Um, so the guy was really happy, like like really really happy. >> Uh, and I'm pretty sure that this impacted the sales, not not because of the paint job, because of how many people saw it, basically. >> Well, that's also kind of the same thing. I thought about this a lot with uh G the GW artwork or box art that I did and also others, whether or not a good paint job or a bad paint job affects the sales. And I I absolutely think that it does. bad to bad badly and people are like >> and I think for for all of the stuff that you do now I think it it matters massively. I've seen um well okay so I can't speak too much from personal experience because I think I I think I kind of ignore the box art when I'm looking at like busts and larger scale figures and mostly about what do I want to do with it but I think it creates excitement and I think that excitement translates to sales. It's I think it's super simple.
>> People see something, they go, "That's fucking cool." And what they're looking at is both the sculpt and the paint shop, and then they buy a >> But on the flip side, >> I remember. >> Yeah. >> Sorry, you go first. >> You'll forget. I'll write mine down like I always do. I remember uh many many years ago pro probably 12 years ago when I started that I saw the big child was doing this campaign with the first Kickstarter campaign which with the black sailors and these orcs orc pirates and I didn't I participated with one because I really liked it but then I remember exactly the day that uh Mark Masclan's uh posted the the Papa Jambo bust and it was a paint job that blew everything away. Like it was it was everyone loved it massively and I remember seeing it and instantly adding it to my cart just for the box art. It was like fuck that's fucking amazing instant purchase and you know I
was back then I was like a I was not a professional really. I was just a slightly professionalish painter, but [snorts] not really. So, I was more on the on the um hobbyist side. So, I really understand that. I really understand that hype of oh, this is fucking amazing. Just Yeah. I don't even think about it. Just buy. >> Yeah, that's exactly it. I think it's it's when you try to if you if you were to ask someone, are you buying this because of the paint job? Most people wouldn't really specify why or know, but I I think if nothing else, subconsciously you think something looks really cool and you want to get it. And I think that's um uh I mean it's something you kind of have to tell yourself for TWW box art especially because it's there's so much stuff coming out and most of it looks a lot like the quality wise it's pretty similar >> but sometimes you'll you'll feel like okay this is actually really really good and maybe that will affect sales or maybe this model will have a better impact for it. Um, so I've got two
things to say now, annoyingly, but the first is I know that I and I hear a lot of people saying it that the box art is too good and it's put me off buying it. Um, because they're intimidated by the concept of trying to recreate that box art. Now, I I've definitely bought models there. I've seen the box art and gone, "Shit, I'd like to recreate that or I could use that as a project, try and learn [snorts] blah blah blah." And that's most of my purchases I think are based on the box arts really. >> Um but there's been a few where I've gone like sometimes the box arts there and it looks really easy so you're like oh I'll buy that cuz I think I can recreate that and then you get there and you're like fuck actually it's like a masterpiece and I can't get close to it or I've seen stuff and again I've heard other people say it where it's like that's just technically too good for me and I don't think I could recreate. And I I was curious about this one with the N&M. Like >> it's not it's not your average painter who's going to try and recreate what you've done. Do you know what I mean?
>> Um and there's so many other ways to approach it. >> I don't think it's about recreating it though because most people don't want to recreate the box arter. They want to do their own thing. But it's a good canvas. It's a it's a canvas that it's very easy to it's you know it's very cheap figure small. It has a great canvas to do it. So the the same way I tried it, they can try other things and of course some people will try it as well, but I don't think it's the the the big part of the of the buyers will be just hype. It's it's not a >> conscious decision. And there there's always people that say that about being scared, >> but you know, >> they're scared anyway.
>> There's always people that don't want to pay to buy things, which is normal. >> Yeah. In a way, you need to do like an AB test where we we release the social media post to the north of the UK and then we release the painted version to the south of the UK and the websites are different and and that's the only way. And even then you'd have to like prevet shit to know that this place averely sells that and that place average like Yeah. basically we don't know. Well, wouldn't wouldn't it be I mean uh because what it sounded like with the Papa Jambo bust you what you said on now was that available to buy before Mark painted it.
>> It's good. >> I think they released it without the paint job. >> I feel like they do that. Well, I mean, this was a long time ago, but I I know I definitely see a lot of stuff for >> uh what like Hera and and them will release something and it will actually say who's doing the box art, but it's not finished. >> And I always find that kind of interesting cuz then there's another like like if I'm not convinced by the sculpt, why I wouldn't, you know, whatever difference that would be is like, oh, it'll be interesting to see how this looks when it's painted. >> Um, a lot of the time I think >> I think it just looks much better painted. everything looks better painted and then >> it it works both ways actually. I think in in some cases you may you may see the the unpainted one and see and and think maybe meh and then you see the the box art and it's really amazing and and you know something that you haven't thought and it's like oh fuck that opens new new ideas in my head and then you want to buy it and it happens also the opposite where you see the box art and it's bland as shit and then you see the sculpt and it's like oh shit the sculpt is pretty
good. It offers a lot more than the box art, so I want to buy it, too. Yeah, I think Yeah, everything uh can happen. So, it's not like you can Yeah, we So, um individual to the model. I know that we've we've released stuff on release and then we've done the box art for it after. And there were no new sales when the box art came out, you know, and you're like, did I spend 1,500 quid? I mean, most of the box arts I bought I bought for myself, honestly, rather than rather than >> But but also the reach was really small, >> wasn't it?
>> I didn't pay Speaking of reach. >> But yeah, it's possible. It's they wouldn't I don't know what the guys they probably had like 1500 at the time or something. >> Yeah. Speaking of reach, >> we've got >> we probably got about we probably got about 30 listeners at this point. Like number maybe 18 or 19 people. There might be one or two among you who don't know that both our now and Jamie have miniatures that you can buy. >> Immediately go to to the respective websites and buy as many as you possibly can. Give them to everyone you know for Christmas.
>> Great. And then when you leave leave a note saying that you um we should what we should do we should give like 5% discounts for listeners. >> That could be cool. >> Do you know what I mean? >> We could do a mini discount. >> Yeah. We we but we have to ask it like we have security check. So they have to answer a question on because otherwise they just share it online or go on one of those coupon websites. >> That's where they answer is in the checkout. >> That's brilliant. There you go. Exactly. Right. If all they do and if all they do if all they write is like what is Grodbusters then fuck you.
>> If anything it's increased it's increased 5% increased now. You've just lost 10%. You son of a fucking bitch. >> Well the um >> my bestselling model um did or does not have a box art. Um which is the dragon rightwin. Uh and that's hard to believe that's six years old now. >> That's insane that I've been in the hobby that long without painting. [snorts] So, [clears throat] ah, it's beautiful day. Um, the news. Okay, you
ready? Hold on. Fucking Hold on, lads. What the fuck is news? Extra, extra. >> Yeah. >> Extra extra. >> Of course, the jingle for the news. [sighs] So, my news. >> I missed that little guy. >> I like the jingle. Yeah. >> Yeah, it's really good. >> It's one of the earlier jingles, actually. Do you know, I was I was just off topic here. Um, we've got all these jingles, right? We need to have like a cull. We need to like go through them and remove like >> Do you know what I mean?
>> That's creepy. That's Yeah, it's incredible. >> Painting recipes. >> Where's that goddamn recipe? >> Right. [laughter] >> Model. This is like you. You gave up here. You [laughter] >> It was creative. be like you're pissed about it like I have to do this fucking thing. It was it was the creative it was the opposite of creative you know it it by its smile face just covered [gasps] it was creative in its absence of creativity do you know what I mean it went against the grain that was [clears throat] one I'm vegetarian >> same this one I like that one right anyway >> the news >> get that fucking job done mate >> taskm yeah that's um an overlord or lord whipping is anyway that's why he's cocked me. So sounds good.
>> But yeah, I want to I want to I want to like cull some of them and like painting recipes was actually where >> say again maybe replace them. Maybe get new ones, better ones. >> Well, no, it's the actual segments have died is what it is. >> Oh yeah. >> Um >> sorry, what was the recipe one? >> Like painting recipe was basically where I would and you'd have prep, right? I would give you um either a model or a color and then you would have to say what this goes well with. So if I gave you like blood red, you'd go, "Okay, if you're going to paint and you could come up with it a homogant, it [snorts] works really well with X." And you'd use color theory. And that was the idea of it. Or I'd be like, "Right, the color recipe for an ultramarine. A bit boring." >> Yeah. I think we did only once >> and I think it was about painting red.
like how to paint a good red >> too generic. >> I know people like recipes but also this is something that you could ask us in one of our several ask us questions channels on >> just Dr. Love brush now. Yeah. Yeah. But it was >> especially and preferably Dr. Brushlo if you if you go in there you don't have to ask big big questions about like the purpose of life and the point of painting at all and like how do I apply color theory to you know my suicide. Just make it simple. Just be like, "How do I what's a cool color for a custom spaceman chapter?" >> Yes.
>> Cuz like we'll we'll go to work. We'll give you the best answer of your >> I mean I it's turquoise obviously. Um my favorite color. So >> I still think the segment has legs. It's just about if you guys want to put the effort in. That's the thing cuz you basically don't do anything as well in the week. It it could actually be like something to do for you two. Um so >> we we share the the thingy and when then we think because everything >> all the knowledge that we have to to throw at you we have to you know study and >> in preparation for this episode I meditate for like four hours a day on painting.
>> Well we're not allowed to talk during the week >> painting and dick jokes. >> Yeah. Exactly. >> I do like dick jokes. Right. So, the
real news was, now you might have been wondering why I look so tired in this episode. I've yawned three times and I've never yawned in a in a mini matters episode. And it is because I was up till 2:00 a.m. last night playing, as you know, Martin Elden Ring now. Ara has been nagging me to play this shit game for a long time. >> Well, I actually haven't. I just said it was my favorite game, [laughter] >> but he would. >> That's the Yeah, that's the hell of an endorsement. He'd be like, he'd be like, "Oh, Jamie, oh, you are you busy? I've just been playing Elder Ring like that." And I'd go, "Oh, now are you trying to ask me to play?" And he'd be like, "No." And then he'd go like, "Oh, if you've got free time, I could tell you about Elden Ring." And I'd be like, "No." And then he'd be like, "Oh, I love Elen Ring so much. I wish I had a friend who played it." Right. But he's never asked me, he says.
So anyway, he asked me to play it again the other day. And um >> and you finally caved. I actually guilt trip him to to pay to play. >> He said if he doesn't if I don't pay, he'll leave the podcast. >> The game for him like he did with your microphone. >> Yeah, that would have been nice. No, I bought the game like two years ago or whatever. So that wouldn't have wor been a waste of a purchase. The thing is, okay, I didn't realize it was an RPG and I don't think I now made it clear, but even if he did say it, it didn't click. Do you know what I mean? And I do like our but also life's just peaks and troughs and waves, right?
I didn't want to play it for the last three years, four years that he's been in my ear non-stop about it. Um, >> and I'm like that a lot with game. Sorry, I continue. >> Yeah. >> No, no, that I mean it's a conversation. So >> yeah, but that it's funny you you say that cuz I I will literally it's such a simple thing to start playing a game, but sometimes I'll know like this is going to eat my entire existence >> and I'm am I ready for that? And sometimes I'll just be like, "Yeah, fuck it. This is it. This is the time I'm going to start playing." Yeah. >> Yeah. I think it's it's because I I spent a lot of hours in Elden Ring. Like I have 300 hours in the normal one, 10 and something in the DLC, I have 150 in the Night Rain one. So it's not like >> that's a lot.
>> It's not like I haven't spent hours, you know, [laughter] >> but I again was that >> 550 hours or something. >> Yeah. >> Over 600 maybe. >> On each one. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. There's the main game. Then there's the DLC which is probably better than the main game actually >> possible. >> And it's fucking amazing. And then there's the new one which is a multiplayer one and it's >> multiplayer like >> no but this one is just a this is a rog like the the the night rein elder ring night reign is just about uh you playing with with friends and then it's a closed game. It's it's like Fortnite. It it gets it closes >> and then you have to beat Yeah. You have three days. It closes during three days.
>> Yeah. And then at the third day you beat you beat the boss, a very special boss. >> And you have to do it with friends. And every single game is different. You have to find your weapons. So it's very it's very different. But I also have 170 hours I think >> I guess in >> So and I am still a functioning adult and [laughter] I you know I I have my my [snorts] company or whatever. >> So >> it's it's also a mental state when you're ready. Like sometimes I don't want to play games. I want to paint. I want to code. I want to I really I really go through these um moments of just just literally wanting to be brain dead. And it's probably once every five six months I'm like I'll just I don't want to but then sometimes I really really want to code and spend six hours coding. And same with painting, right?
So yeah, right now I was I was somehow ready. I was looking for a game to play. I think the fact that I started playing Alien Trilogy from 1996 um from my childhood. Um we [snorts] So yes, we can do that in another day. We can dissect it. So that's the news. I've started playing Elden Ring. I'm level 22. I'm 12 hours in. I think 10 hours in. Um >> I've kind of regret >> like a baby. >> Yeah. [laughter] of the womb.
>> I kind of I regret some of my stat. I've put 16 strength into strength and I'm a mage and I'm like I wanted to test out if this sword was worth having basically and it fucking wasn't. It was rubbish. Like >> there's having a strength is always nice because you will find a a good uh magic sword that will need that will require some strength and some intelligence and it will be fucking amazing. So it's always fine to >> Okay. Okay. So I really am in the the early that's really good to hear because I thought I was basically late game now is how I felt. >> Yeah. Know I'm I'm 100 180 I think level.
>> Yeah. And and the requirement is >> No, I think I'm 200 and something. I'll check. >> Fucking hell. >> 200. She So anyway, Martin, this is RPG which means role playing game. Uh >> thanks. >> And um it is quite good. It's basically Did you ever play Skyrim? Yeah, I played loads of Skyrim. >> It's basically a well polished, bug-free Skyrim >> and better story. >> I didn't uh Yeah, I that's the bit I'm I'm uh hearing that it's got a a really solid story and that people get really invested in. I'm uh I'm a big sucker for just story generally in games. It's really why I play anything and the thing that's going to get me hooked is like a good story, something to care about. I just started playing a friend of mine nagged me and actually did nag me to start playing cyberpunk uh >> that is good to be fair.
>> Um yeah and I know that it speaking of bugs that it got a really like rough start because it had a lot of bugs and it wasn't ready and then it's had years of patches and stuff and now there's just nothing at all wrong with it and it looks amazing and I started playing that and um yeah I'm like really into it now. Elden Ring has has a weird thing about the story because I I'm a really I really love the story and lore of Elden Ring, but the game doesn't give you anything of it. Well, >> I heard about that.
>> It does, but in a very specific and very cryptic way. >> Yeah. >> So, you have to extract it very with with very >> it's it's well, yeah, you have to look for it, right? >> Yeah. >> But he means outside of the thing. Like I I I always talk to people >> inside. >> Okay. Yeah. you you can get it inside, but you have to almost dedicate it like your your soul to looking for the for the story. And obviously it's >> if you go to >> the thing I love >> to which is a YouTube channel and then he explains it to you. But >> it's it's >> normally normally these games I remember when I was a kid like you'd have to read the instruction manual. I wonder if the physical game comes with um base law on it. It doesn't. No.
>> Fair enough. >> Everything is on the description of the items. >> Yeah. Yeah. And conversations. >> Description of the items. Little conversations, little phrases that you can find around. Uh it's it's like a massive puzzle. >> The ghosts annoy me. I have to say the the ghost that you interact with. And one guy was like just they're like they're sad ghosts. They're sitting down normally and they're like outside this um one of those dungeons underground. and he was like, "Oh, this guy is really bad. He didn't die and he's crying, obviously. Oh, I'll find it out." Anyway, I thought that once I destroyed the baddy in the cave, when I come out and talk to him again, he'd be like, "Thanks, mate." And then his soul would be at rest. Now, he just stays there.
He's just bitter. Like, that annoyed me. I wanted some closure on that. Um, >> and and the quests are not like it's the quests are just quests because you think they are. Like you [clears throat] talk to a guy >> and there's no >> there's no like quest journal or or >> finish quest like you just go where he says and then you do what he says and then you expect something that will happen. In some cases it happens a lot. Some cases does nothing happens that you never know. >> I freed a guy from a bush. He was a bush. He got turned into a bush and um >> I remember that >> he's a little rat guy and he was like, "Oh, I've got nothing to give you except for this mushroom." Um, and then he Anyway, uh, I I actually think the thing I disliked the most about Skyrim was the journal and the quest because I had to finish the quests and it meant that it became a chore rather than an enjoyment.
>> Yeah. >> Right. Whereas this doesn't have that. And so far, I'm enjoying it much more than I really am just a bloke on a mythical horse running around doing shit rather than I'm a slave to the things. And I it does make sense that this game is more refined and polished than Skyrim because Skyrim's like fucking 11 years old now. >> Um >> bit more than that actually. Yeah. >> Yeah. Uh so I'm like it's it's legit. So yes, that is that is the 12minut segment on Elen Ring. I will give you a weekly update no doubt on my progress. We
>> want that. You also finished uh Fion as well. Oh, have we not spoken about that? >> Sorry, you guys talking about I was going to watch the first episode and then I just didn't have time. Apologies. >> Shit. Okay, let's do some miniature stuff then come back to that to give the the listeners what they want >> those. >> Okay, you you do you do fre and then I'll do Chad Powers which I I finished. >> Oh shit. >> Chad fucking powers. Oh god, I love that. I've watched it twice now. It's It's just so Anyway, right. It's fine.
It's fine. Right >> now, man. >> The new segment. Okay. This is a segment I'm particularly proud of and annoyingly is the most work I've ever done on a segment. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, it's called Faction Feud, and it means nothing. It's just a cool name that rhymes. Now, I don't know what the show was called in America, but in the UK it was called Family Fortunes. Now, the premise of the show is >> you would have two families and they'd compete against each other, okay? And then you would have the host and the host would say, "We asked 100 people to name us the top beauty products, right?" And then you would both you would both have a buzzer. I think >> there's an episode of that in there's always funny photo. It's amazing.
>> Right. So, you know, Oh, well, I need to explain the game for everyone. >> You eat dragons, Charlie? >> Sorry. >> You eat dragons, Charlie? [laughter] Yeah, >> it's good. Other people. [snorts] >> So, >> you get the premise. Basically, you you will have to guess the um I think you're allowed three guesses each. Okay. And um if you if you I let's not we don't want this is a trial run. So, I've I've got the answers, okay, for one thing because I haven't collated all the rest because it's to be honest, it's kind of boring.
Um, now where are the fucking results now? But did you got the premise? >> Yeah. >> Don't do we do it take it in turns or do you have fingers on buzzers? It doesn't make sense to have fingers on buzzes, does it? Cuz there's no benefit there's no penalty for going first. Yeah. You just shout me. >> Um, >> okay. Me. Okay. >> Well, what I'm saying is it doesn't make sense to have you can't have a buzzer >> because if you go first, you'll always go first. And if you if you get one that's not on the board, do you lose your go? Okay, that's what we do then. All right.
>> Y >> we'll do buzzers and if you if if one of the things that you say is not on the He's googling u um I haven't even given you the question yet. Martin >> can't can't cheat yet. [snorts] >> Um >> if you get it wrong, then you if you get it right, you get another guess. Is that how they do it? >> Okay. >> No idea. >> Fuck it. For the first round, we're going to take it in turns. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um, and this is a practice round, but what we'll do is we'll have three questions and then whoever wins with the total score wins for that day. Okay.
>> Okay. >> All right. And I'll think of a jingle in a minute. Right. So, uh, 100 people we asked at Monty Sansino. Okay. >> To name a real real people. Yeah. >> Oh, shit. But real real or like real real. Okay. [laughter] um to name a paint brand in miniatures. >> Okay. >> Okay. Who wants to go first? >> But I'll go first. Okay. >> Isn't Isn't it that you say the I know. Okay. Yeah. >> Yeah. I I Cuz in the show it's one family at a time. No buzzer, right?
>> Okay. >> This is the mini matters version. >> Okie dokie. >> Okay. Well, I mean, we can, but I've only got one question, so [laughter] >> Oh, great. Okay. >> All right. I tell you what. What we could do is you both could you could both name five. Okay. So, and then we could like secretly compare who >> got the most scored. Do you know what I mean? >> Five. Yeah. >> All right. Fuck it. I don't know, mate. Look, this is the segment. I hadn't thought this far ahead. I was just excited to get the real answers for everyone. >> Oh, it's it's an incredible segment.
>> A little bit fine tuned. >> Yeah. All right. So, Vallejo >> Mhm. >> is number five on the list with nine people. >> Holy shit. You said Vallejo. Okay. And that's including >> so you've got >> mean now gets to go second. >> Yeah. Well, now he you're going to guess three each. Okay. So now Arnell is going to go with the next one. So Martin nine points. >> This is great. >> Emra Chamra is second >> with 22. With 22. You've got to think of your target Martin. Martin.
>> Yeah. Who are these pretentious fucking people, [laughter] >> right? >> Oh shit. Uh I'll citadel. I guess it's not going to be number. >> That's number three. That's number three. That's a good guess. So now number three, number two, and number five have gone. So you are doing quite well in fairness. So 15 points means you're on 24 points. >> AK AK is fourth with 10 paint brand. So yeah. And then you only way to win. >> Yeah. I've got a kind of a guess here.
No, I don't actually. So, there's two. Okay. So, there's one reel and then >> So, two, three, four, five have gone. >> Yeah. I'm going to guess this is it's a Hail Mary here mini color. >> I don't even know whether >> No, they're not on there. >> And then that's a big question. >> Yeah, I thought because of their recent like promoting and talking about if you actually ask people in Monte then that would it might have come up. It's called the paints. Uh, yeah. Paints. >> Okay.
>> Cheating. [laughter] Oh, now it's cheating. But look at this paint pot. >> No, I mean there's there's one that it's pretty obvious, but I don't want it to to be the first one because it's it shouldn't >> but like like nobody would >> as much but it all the big ones are are out. >> Yeah, they're out. Exactly. There. There's one more that I I think it's the one you're thinking about, but go ahead. >> I'd say [snorts] scale 75. >> It's number one.
>> That's what I thought. >> That's number one. >> 32 people. >> 32 people. >> Yeah. >> I don't even know two people who would actually use that. Not that there's any lion's favorite scale. >> Good paints. >> I probably would have said scale maybe two years ago. >> Niche niche. >> Scale is mass. I think scales their biggest the thing they sell the most is their metallic and >> is their paints. >> Yeah. And their paints. I think all their money really good. >> Say again. >> They're really good paints. I'm not saying anything else but like >> I would have expected Chamra in that or Yeah. Or Vallejo. I think >> I thought Valo definitely would be number one them um in that but it was um it was quickfire. Right. So put them on the spot. Think of a paint.
>> No, that's good. >> Our now are now nailed that one. >> So, what do you think of the uh the new segment? Right. Faction feud. >> That's cool. >> That's cool. >> Do you take it in turns or one person gets to guess them all? >> No, that was quite fun actually. >> Yeah. >> Sorry. You agree that it's good to go in turns? >> It is. It is. It is. It is. >> Yeah. I thought it was quite fun cuz it's uh it means you can answer depending on what the other one >> cuz I was I was on the fence between did a lot of people want to talk about mini color like as a thing or or was it scale 75 and I could have could have won the whole damn thing.
>> You would have won it as well or I'll >> could have said you could have also had a Oh, you said AK. >> Yeah. are now we when we had said when we said AKO and Citadel I was like that's about the big ones like >> the ones that people use Kamir I was surprised was fucking number two >> super popular Yeah exactly it's even down they even sell it downstairs >> Monte thing it's a Monte thing again to to be clear this is not me saying those paints are bad it's just that I didn't think they were quite as >> as popular >> ubiquitous >> yes popular >> I was Right. Let's go to Mr. Dove Brush.
Dr. Love Brush. This is from Glac um Excalibur. >> Question. Yeah, it's cuz I didn't write it down. I can I just remember it's a mental name. Um I also got a question for Martin. He he he wrote it like that. So he That's not me doing a Cockney accent. I also got a question for Martin. And my question for Martin is I think my name is in that question four times. But far away, >> Martin is >> Hello. >> as Oh, my question for Martin is as somebody who primarily paints in the heavy metal style, can you touch upon why GW is so heavily influenced by the heavy metal painting style? Uh, what is the history behind it for those that don't know much about it?
>> Yeah. So, >> was this >> I'm not sure how much you and I I don't actually know how much you know about every metal and what that is. Uh, so essentially the heavy metal team is the name for Games Workshop in-house boxard painters. They're called the Every Metal Team. And as far as anyone can find out, that name has been around since about 88, 87, maybe 86 maybe. Um, and it started as a little thing in White Dwarf where they would collect like their sort of painted works and conversions from around the studio. So, it's it's a pretty pretty long thing. And then eventually that label attached itself to their own in-house painters. And then that that was really kind of uh formalized by um more than anyone else Mike McVey.
And then throughout the 90s again it was it was turned into this really kind of uh self-propagating like style and technique and uh just workflow I guess. So, a bunch of people that painted all of Games Workshop's box art style uh box arts uh and looking kind of like the same um as so that's why Games Workshop that's their relationship with it that that should be uh I mean >> they literally are heavy metal. >> Yeah, Heavy Metal and Games Workshop is kind of the same thing. So, anything that Games Workshop does to do with painting they like to brand as heavy metal. Um, and then obviously they have people working for them now as painters who are not sort of technically heavy metal painters like the presenters or people who paint battlefields and stuff like that. But um, that's what that is.
And then the style itself comes from a few different things. I think one of the most specific uh ways that the style was was developed was the um the fact that it was all meant for photography. And in the 80s the the basically the printing quality in the 80s was not quite as good as now. Less to do with the cameras and more to do with the the printing. So when they did cataloges and white dwarf the colors wouldn't really be as punchy and they wanted their miniatures to look as interesting as possible. So they added a lot of bright colors and really uh garish like um the highlights were really quite well defined and all of that stuff. and then that sort of stuck around and now we've, you know, refined that a little bit so it's not quite as saturated. Maybe >> I'm going to add a little question inside because now that you said that, I remember in the third edition codec um no the third edition rule book, there were uh space marines that were painted in a in a very different way like
like now it feels like it's a lot simplified in in a sense like it's more like it's edge highlight and and basically that's it. But in the in the I remember some space marines maybe an imperial feast and probably maybe even a blood angel that had um very big transition of color like from orange to yellow and very a gradient you know >> I know I know which one you mean with the imperial fist especially. Yeah >> it was very you know um not not simple you know. Yeah.
So probably that um they optimized it because I guess that obviously took a lot more time to do than the night highlight. So did did that or this is something that you know about like how they consciously did that or >> No, I don't I don't know specifically. I don't want to really try to speculate too much about why things like that might have been preferred or not. I do know that uh in the late 90s they started uh basically hiring painters in the heavy metal team like specifically as army painters. So there were people there that were sort of brought in to do bigger collections and there wasn't really a um a huge difference between like here's what you do and here's what you do and here's how they they did have for a long time army painters as their own team. They've had that now for years where those people are expected to paint much much faster and they're amazing. They do like massive collections. Um but the but in the like in this sort of early version
of it, it was just more like um we need well you guys need to find out a way to do things quicker. And I think all of that kind of blended together maybe would be my guess. And so that a lot of those methods might have been uh simplified a bit so that if you had one of those space marines and maybe you know someone like Mike McVy or someone else might have thought this is a fun way to do Imperial Fists. Let's try this. That was like a thing that you could do before and then all of a sudden it was much more like you have a shorter deadline or you need to always be painting bigger collections of stuff. I I guess if if you have a a complex blend like like that, there's a lot more things that can go different with different people painting it. So, I guess um there's a lot more chances of doing different nuances of color if you do that.
>> Consistency is really one of the big things for the heavy metal team to try and make sure that everything looks consistent. I think it's maybe something that's been a bit like bastardized a little there's a bit bit of a confusion around that term like what is consistent because I don't think that consistent needs to be exactly the same across every miniature. I still think that like characters can look a bit different and better >> and you know you don't have to paint a tank exactly the same way as a regular trooper. Um, but yeah, >> the same colors. Yeah, >> exactly. You still want it to feel like one collection. That's really the important thing. So, uh, yeah, I think definitely now I mean I I know for a fact like like um a range will be developed with every unit in mind with every color variant within like that army. All of that stuff will be developed as one cohesive co cohesive collection.
>> Uh that can be painted then by anyone really so that you have all your your paint recipes and all your color schemes and everything ready before anyone starts working on it so that people kind of know what to do. Um but yeah, so for anyone who wasn't quite aware of the connection between every metal and games workshop, there it is. And that's really so it's not so much an influence. It's like it's it's basically um uh what's the word? The same thing.
>> Thanks guys. I was doing my GR busters. [laughter] >> You're doing I uh I had I had rough ideas but I haven't I hadn't finalized them. Uh so if you wondered what I was doing, I was full concentration mode. if you ever want to see what I look like when I'm really in there. Okay, next question from Bo. Um, I think it's B. >> B. >> Yeah, it's just B. >> Yeah, >> B. Um, I haven't listened to episode 11 yet, so you can tell this question was old and we missed it. Uh, if so yet, it might have been covered. Um, but in episode 10, Arnau mentioned that we shouldn't paint with a too strong painting light.
>> Mhm. That could be a short. Um, would he mind expl expanding on that? I've had the impression that basically mine is better or more is better and the strong light is important to one see the figure well and b make sure the values and colors are correct. That's a good question. Uh because it it's light light when you see something uh you see colors uh what you're seeing is the light and rebounding on that surface, right? The more light you have the the more you will see that color getting back to you. If you paint with too much light, what you will see is you will see that desired contrast a lot sooner than it should because there's a lot more light coming your way. So when you take this figure out of the lights, you will see that it's a lot darker. But on the lights, it looks well because
that there's so much light that a lot of light is rebounding to you. So, what you want is to have a nice light that it's enough for for you to see well, but um not enough to make such a big difference between an inside and outside if you know what I mean because then you want the figure to to be looked at outside the lights. This is how figures should be look like look looked at. So, uh, and also when you paint, you have to take the figure out to see if the colors are really, um, really popping, right?
And you will not see that under the lights. Under the lights is just for you to not end up blind. But when you have uh, enough light to see, that's that's enough. It you don't need more. More light doesn't mean you will see better at all. Actually, it probably will fuck your eyes up uh pretty quickly because then you have to when if you have a lot of light inside the your painting desk and then outside you don't have much every time you look at outside your eyes do and then you end up um >> with with a lot of stress in your eyes and yeah it's better to to have a consistent light. I know often that that light that's like this, the halo I always thought looked fucking amazing.
I've never used one, but um I don't know if it's good cuz you get you don't get directional light then. >> I haven't I haven't used it, but I don't think I like it mostly because I'm not sure and this is speculation. I'm not sure if you will see the lights in in the sides. If you do, that's sort of bad. >> Yeah, >> because you don't want the lights to be >> Yeah. You almost needed like, you know, >> the first and then a curve just here. But then Yeah. Yeah. I mean, to be honest, I have no problems with just a fucking lamp that you pull down. And >> I mean, these these lamps are the best you can do.
>> Omniirectional. >> Absolutely. They cost £10 and they are literally the best. >> But you have to put bulbs in them. [snorts] >> Um, how many have you got? Two or three? >> Three. >> Yeah. >> And are they daylight bulbs? They are 5,000 um 5 5,000 Kelvin and I think they are 600 lumens each. >> God damn. Also, what's >> not much? >> You can look how bright they look like though in the background.
>> Yeah, that's just our house. >> No, that's those super powerful bright lights he's got on. >> Look at it. That one bulb is even lighting the behind it. Shit. actually outside London is lit by [laughter] this. It's not >> It's It's quite funny that you're talking about, you know, it's it's good not to have two bright lights and right next to you right now is like the surface of the sun. >> Literally, it's white. >> Um >> the sun is out already, so there's literally no sun outside.
>> Yeah. You mean the sun's gone down, right? Yeah. It's Yes, >> cuz it's 300 p.m. Oh, it's two. [clears throat] >> I'm going to die if I keep up this um elder ring. >> 3 p.m. with with you. Yeah, you're going to So, this is uh You're right. You You've never looked this tired ever in your episodes. [laughter] >> I The trouble is, as soon as we hang up this call, I'm going to be playing Elden Ring again. [laughter] So, it's like >> I hear [snorts] that. I hear that. >> I just love the fact that I can just I don't use the map yet. I just literally just run around and the >> You haven't found any map yet?
>> Even if I found I did find one. >> It's pretty crucial to have the maps. >> I like Okay, I'll get maybe 50 hours and then I'll start using maps. I just love running. That's all I do. I just run and >> Yeah. Yeah. I I understand that. And I I didn't use the maps at first, but the map is so fucking big that >> you need to know what you have explored and what not. Well, I see that though. I It's It becomes solid when I've gone there. >> No, no. >> Yeah. Yeah. But what you what you're seeing the screen you're seeing is not the full map at all.
>> That's like 1/5ifth of the map. >> No. Get out of here. That can't be real. How big? I'm going to Google how big the map is. It's like >> without considering the DLC, which is already double. >> Jesus Christ.
>> Yeah, boy. You can never get bored of running on a horse. And the horse isn't even real. Well, you can't miss, but anyway. Right now, this is the weird segment where we're going to answer as if we're Albert. All right. >> Because, >> uh, we didn't get the questions in time for when he was on the thing, so we're pretending we're Albert. Okay. So, this is a question for Albert, answered by us. Okay. >> Have you always been a one project best effort painter, or did you fall into that category as you developed as a painter? Albert, thoughts?
>> I I saw that question. I I don't even know what that means. >> Are now should be >> What do you think, Arnau? You've probably known him the longest. Has he [snorts] always been this uh this this way of painting nons? >> Who has known him longer? Oh, >> now when did you meet him? >> Uh in the pandemic. >> Yeah. >> When he moved to London. >> Yeah. >> So you then, Jamie, you've known him longer. I've known him online for two years before the pandemic, but uh I didn't know he painted then. We were just chatting about Old Hammer and artwork.
Literally had no idea he painted. Um, >> so the question >> but now talks to him about >> basically do you think Albert um is is this one you know he does two models a year maybe um and he's always been like that or does he did he used to paint prolifically and then molded into this and I believe he's always been a meticulous perfect painter basically >> um >> he's just got an innate ability to be able to paint attention to detail that he at as at a young age.
>> That's how it's because he and and I I say I say this in the best possible way because I think we are fucked up >> and he's he's not in in this sense. He has not moved on from from the the big project era which was when I started painting and there was this um >> forum uh Spanish team. Uh everyone did projects to the very best of their abilities uh spending as many months as possible or as necessary. You know, it was it was a a really um everyone loved it so much that they wanted to produce the best of the best and every project was so unique and so so special and everyone, you know, there was there was this special care about the projects. And obviously the the painting level was not as high as now because they they produced a lot less.
But the overall feeling of each of each piece was the the the feeling that you have with what he produces now, which are deeply cared and individually iconic pieces because they are, you know, really cared for. And this this got lost in with time. Uh when we started understanding uh the more like the pictorial side of painting miniatures, we started focusing more on the painting side and not so much on the modelist side. So the what we want to do or what we we explored in the last few years was more about brush stroke about uh painting core values instead of the modelist side which is absolutely forgotten in my opinion and it's a pity because uh that that's a big part of our of our hobby the the pasing the storytelling the the care for details.
We paint miniatures. So, we have to be um detailed, right? It uh the the size matters in this case, the small size matters. Don't you think that's indicative of where you two or where these Albert's every metal painter basically or not every metal golden demon, right? And if you don't do that, you you basically don't win. >> Yes. But >> so it's like This comes from from from many many years ago. It's it and I guess golden timon is a consequence of this >> but not the other way around.
>> Way around exactly >> because the back then the projects were not only uh Warhammer at all. Actually, there were Enigma models and scale and and miniatures and all these models and I remember seeing all these projects >> month after month after month of people asking how is it going? how is it going and you know and updates and whips and so a a a whole project was maybe a year's worth of work or many months of work >> and and this this principle is what Albert has still and he has not lost that and I it's amazing he has not lost that >> yeah which answers the question right it's he's I think yeah I agree but he I I mean, Albert will no doubt message us when he listens to this and have an opinion on it. But don't you think he he like he want he it's a conscious decision. He wants to stay that way because he wants
to produce these pieces. Yeah. Yeah. >> I like I've always found that that there's something about his >> like it's like it's it's never a lack of excitement or enthusiasm. It's all it's it's the opposite. of course has got a ton tons of enthusiasm, but there's something about not seeing a new thing or having a new idea every 30 minutes like a lot of us. >> He's just like, you don't have to be a massive scatterbrain in the hobby to struggle to keep that kind of focus for months and months on end. But it it never ceases to amaze me how you can just see all this cool stuff and not have >> Yeah. not break away >> other ideas. Not just like >> he he has the ide he'll talk to me about all these ideas he's got >> but then he's like fuck those ideas I'm sticking with this and he interestingly doesn't talk to me about the ideas when he's in the project which is probably a self-preservation thing right >> for sure. For sure. I'm I'm not saying he doesn't have the ideas. I I get >> but how does it [clears throat] not
break him away basically? >> Yeah. How does that not influence him or or distract him at all? I think that's really incredible because it it's um to me it's almost like uh quite depressing to think that >> Oh, sorry. Right. >> Yeah. No, I was going to say it's a bit depressing to think that like I could only do one piece a year, but there's nothing wrong with it. It's just that it sounds like a very low number. Like, oh, I'll just do one miniature this year. >> Yeah. I mean, it's it's I I wouldn't want to do that. >> Yeah. >> But but it's if it's what you like. >> Exactly.
>> Amazing. Exactly. I mean, at the end of the day, >> it's it's it's >> what makes you happy.
>> Yeah. Well, it's like your um thing that you do. I don't know if you do it anymore now, but you you collect all your um models on one picture, right? >> And you're like, "This is what I >> I'm very excited to do this." Yes. >> Yeah. And it's like Albert will always say, "Fucking hell, it's amazing. I wish I could paint as fast as you." But on the flip side, >> Albert correct us when we're wrong, but the flip side, Albert's also really really proud of what he cuz what that that piece that he produces, right? Because >> it's it's an interesting >> level of you've both gone Arnau and Albert, you both have gone to the extremes of the opposite ends of the spectrum.
>> Yeah, it's funny. like like you're producing more than most people like I don't know probably like I don't know how maybe the only other person I can think of is Eric probably who does like the same highlevel number of pieces out there and Albert's producing maybe one maxims the the other guy but but yeah of a high level single piece and they're both like you yeah you're pushing both to the extremes basically. >> Yeah. Um, >> absolutely. >> But I think also there there's there's other extremes as well, which is and I I I do completely understand Albert looking at our now and thinking, "Wow, I kind of wish I could do that." I don't think in any way that he's saying, "I wish I didn't do what I'm doing." It's just that you're looking at someone else and thinking, "Oh, that's also really cool." I'm I'm really jealous of our now speed and and u being able to produce that much in that time at that high quality as well. But I'm also kind of jealous of people who paint armies. Like that's fucking cool. If you're into gaming and you paint a 2,000 point army in six months or in two months, >> some people just like turn out amazing
looking stuff and they play loads of games >> and scenery as well. And I think, wow, that would be great if I could do that, but I can't. That's not that's not for me. >> I agree. I um so to get back to the news on have I painted >> [sighs and gasps] >> How long is a piece of string have I painted? [laughter] There's been a ah I was ill. I was really fucking ill for like two weeks. I had the real flu. Um and the whole family was ill as well. So actually no.
But I tell you what's frightening is I can feel a little bit of a pull to get back into gaming. Right. But I've avoided it. No. No. It's not fine. cuz I don't want to paint. I don't want to game. I want to paint. But it's interesting, I think, that I'm feeling the calling because it's been a month since I've painted anything. And gaming is online mostly with the TTS shit, which is exactly what now Elden Rings replaced. My brain was looking for something to do brain dead, which is basically just gaming, right?
>> Um >> that's that's exactly what happens to me as well. >> Yeah. Yeah. you need I your brain just wants to do. So um I'm really motivated to paint but right now somehow task masters is going to be good for me I think cuz it's going to force me to paint when I right now I'm like I honestly I can already feel and it feels like a chore slightly like okay you've got two weeks to finish you have to finish which means it will part my bum there and I know as soon as I sit down I'll enjoy it. It's not like I resent it when I'm there. It's just that right now my main motivation is to get level 100 and just kill like the demigod. And >> to be fair, Elen Ring is a is a game that worked very well for me in the painting side because um also I do that about the the brain dead and then I I I have to exhaust myself painting and then I play. It's both >> they both work very well. But then because of the environments of Elder Ring, which are probably the best thing
of of the whole game, they're fucking amazing. It it al always motivates me to do scenery or bases or, you know, I want to do this. Actually, the base I'm doing right now is some sort of inspired by things like this. Um, so it's probably one of the games that ever motivate me more or inspired me more in in my whole life uh about painting. >> Damn. I mean, it's I'll be honest, that screenshot I sent the colors, they know whoever the art director was, they fucking know what they're doing. They they it's almost like they were employed to do it. I know the budget wasn't that big on this game, right? It wasn't one of the AAA games like 400 million.
>> It's the biggest game they did. Fromoft is a small company. It's not a big company. >> So, they're all slave drives. >> Um, I used to know, do you remember Batman Arkham? I don't know if you ever heard. >> My sister's ex um worked there before the game was released and he created I think three of the artists. So, he was an artist and then you make the 3D renders of them as well. you do it all. Like they were uh and he was just like you're slave driven. You get paid not that good. You you work you have to work late basically every night for like a year to hit this deadline.
Um yeah, I don't think I would it go when you when you play and and see these cool scenarios, try to do this this exercise which I did many times which is imagine um a base you know a round base and and put it in place. For example, if you see a cool tree or if you see uh for example in the ruins that you are now, >> imagine that as a as a circle moving it around like that >> and put a figure there, you know, in your head >> and you'll see how many fucking cool bases you you can find from from that.
It's it's yeah, infinite. Literally infinite. >> I I mean basing ah fuck basing is the thing that I want to do most. We've said this. I've been literally this the only thing I've probably ever committed to in our relationship that we talked to about painting before through this. >> You've seen it. You've said it many times. Yeah. >> They're just so amazed. Anyway, I don't want to go down there. It makes me frustrated and excited to to >> That's good. >> It's both, but it's trepidation as well. So, that's the first one. Brilliant.
Thanks, Albert, for answering that. Um the only thing I would ask is how did his journey lead him towards his style of painting and I guess that he can also ask towards all of you guys. Okay. So Albert style of painting was because he would consume white dwarves and golden demon things when he was young. So like 10, 11, 12. >> Um and like Jacob Nielson and um Jess Goodwin sculpts I guess. um these painters influenced him where he basically thought that's fucking amazing. I'm going to recreate that high level and that's where Albert's and then obviously yeah the forums that you spoke about and friends and his own style and it's like like his slayer sword that he won in the UK 2006 is extremely muted and like and that was the style then basically. So um I don't think I have a style in painting. I know what I like roughly, but I couldn't say where I've been influenced by um you guys.
>> Heavy metal. >> If anything, it's uh more of a crutch right now. So, it's just very very heavy every metal, but I'm trying to look for other influences. But Golden Demon entries was huge when I was starting as well. It wasn't just every metal. I think that's very detrimental to >> Yeah, I agree that >> I actually think so. It's It's not great to just look at every medal as like the answer to all your questions and problems. It's uh and for me it was they put out these booklets of uh Golden Demon entries I think at least four years in a row >> and I would just uh >> basically eat those.
>> Yeah, there was a old Golden Demon poster from like 1994 and then you just had the white dwarfs and then those booklets were amazing. I I honestly >> why they stopped is beyond me. Um, yeah, doing like a full spread of Golden Demon entries. Well, I guess I mean they have the website now and everything, but >> yeah, like every Golden Demon between 90 99 and 2003, like that was that was more of my painting school than uh than anything else, more than heavy metal as well. And they they used to do these great uh heavy metal showcase pages in the old Codeexes, which was funny because it was like every other picture of miniatures in the book that was also heavy metal, but the the showcase page was a bit special and it would have like >> models painted by heavy metal painters, but also curated by the heavy metal team. So it was Golden Demon entries and it was just like random stuff that John Blanch did. And all of that was also really influential in showing kind of I remember thinking specifically like oh this is what the heavy metal painters do when they're not just doing the box art.
This is like their own personal >> take. They could push it. >> That was really big for me >> kind of. >> Um yeah but sort of a short answer. What about you Arnell? >> I think mine is amaz >> uh not that much. I mean I like classical art in in some ways. Roberto Fer I love as well. But I think I have this duality of I like comic books and anime a lot and then I love this other type which is they are dramatically different. And I think I I may have an in between both because when I do realistic stuff I don't do I I kind of do it in a way that reminds me of of comic books as well. When I did the the naked study, it is realistic, but it has a a touch of of anime actually with the colors mostly.
So, yeah, I guess it's a blend of that. Uh, I always liked a lot um the um Blizzard everything Blizzard did, you know, Warcraft and Overwatch, which is this comic comic style. And they have this illust illustrations. The Blizzard book is is amazing. It's like the Bible of miniature painting. It was for a while. Um, and Big Child, they had they had it in Big Child as well as as the the reference. And it it has been as well my reference. But I guess because I like things from a lot of places. I pick different different stuff. And I guess that makes a blend of what I what I do.
>> It's fascinating. If you paint enough, I guess you just naturally get your own style, don't you? >> Um >> it's literally it's a consequence. A style is a consequence. >> Yeah, I agree. >> It's definitely not something that you can try to do as well. I think there's a danger to that to just saying like I want to have my own style or I want to develop it. That doesn't really work.
>> God, that's a big message. It's a work code message there for all of you. Right. So, hold on. >> Don't Hold on. Fucking >> I think I think I am. Therefore, I am. >> That is of course >> the new jingle. The new jingle. >> Holy shit. >> Thor thought of the day. M >> now you get it. Now you get it. >> I think, therefore I I am, therefore I am. >> Uh I think, therefore I am. Basically, >> yeah, it's brilliant. And that is extracted from the Moody Blues. One of the best English bands of the 60s.
Nobody really knows them. Um I think they do if you're from that time. Oh, okay. One, two, or three. You get to pick. I've added two new thoughts of the days. Three. >> Three. Fucking hell. This one's a bit deep, boys. All right. You ready? >> Yep. It's hard to explain. I'm going to try to explain it. Okay. So, when I see a large number of photos of myself through the years, okay, so like >> basically the start of Tina's relationship, cuz she wouldn't put photos above that. to the last 15 years.
I I'm I'm not sure if I'm real. Like if if like they they question like what my life is. It's so hard to explain like >> it's very hard to explain because hard to explain. >> It's like I love how the the buildup to that and the the punchline was just not at all what I was expecting. like you're looking at old photos. I was like, "Okay." And something about your how you're aging and like nope.
[laughter] >> It's >> literal existentialism. >> Yeah. It's It's like I forgot that any of that existed, you know? I kind It's like I exist now >> and I'm mean and and and and >> and this is my timeline of my life and I'm everything that came before. I don't. But when I see them together, I'm like, fuck, I've actually known this woman for this long and I do like her. No. And like we we've been on this huge journey where here we were as two people and we went roller skating and we we made loads of love and we drank and blah blah blah. And now we're like all the way here and it's just so different.
We're like two dependable people now, but we're not like a couple. We're like a married couple with kids. But all of that stuff that came before, I don't really remember. But I do remember it when I see the photos. But until I saw those photos, I was like, shit. Like the fuck. It just It's really It's like I'm only me now and I But obviously everything here. >> Is it that you can't quite put yourself in in the emotional state of where you were then? Is that it? You can remember things happening, but you can't remember what they were like.
>> No, it's it's I can do anything. I can I can reminisce and go back and think how nice that time was and and how much I love her and how much I loved her in a different way back then. Um, hold on. My kid's knocking on my door. I have to pretend to not be here. Okay, I'm going to pause it for a second. I mean, I never said Thought of the Day had to be hobby related. I don't think it ever has been. Um, >> and it's fast enough. >> Yeah, it's it's so yeah, I can take myself back there and reminisce and think how amazing that time was and how much all the feelings and everything and and um and and [clears throat] like basically the whole relationship except for a 2-year period is positive memories. We had some we had some tough times. Um, and they they I think all they did really is just solidify that we're never going to break up kind of thing. Never say never obviously touch wood. He I never say those things. That was I I was saying that anyway. Um >> but yeah, I don't know. It was just weird.
It's like without those photos, it it I it may as well have not have happened, but obviously it's not true because it's shaped who you are, but it's like it was a really a weird thing to look and be like, "Fuck, did that happen? Was I that like was that who I was then?" You know? >> Yeah. And it's funny to think that this person that that person doesn't exist anymore because you are >> a completely different like molecules and shit. >> Yeah, that is completely >> that's kind of hilarious >> that that being is dead.
>> Like marriage is weird in that regard as well because >> you're together forever until we die unless you're religious but yeah. Um, but you changed so much. You you know, we got married. Tina and I got married. We got engaged after 2 years. Married after three, I think. And I just think 3 years and to get married to someone, you you really have to fucking love that person to be like, and I I made a good decision. Like, she is an amazing lady. She has her faults, don't get me wrong. When she's not eating, she's a cunt. I just I put that out there on record. Anyway, this wasn't about It wasn't meant to be about my wife. The the the the main point here was like, are we really real?
Like someone could have easily implanted those memories in my brain, taken photos easily with AI. I've se it happens in anime all the time. >> In in science fiction movies sometimes. >> Yeah. >> In anime, >> Total Recall, >> not that much. >> For example, >> it's not anime. >> No, but it's science fiction. Uh, right.
There you go. That was You got the deep one. Um, the other ones are really good. So, uh, Grotbusters, hold on. >> I know. I think [snorts] No, I don't. >> And that is, of course, the jingle for a Gotbusters. Now, we have had a overwhelming response from the community this week. I was just looking at the questions and my and my notes for what the uh ah bright [clears throat] fucking that's what I was doing. That's why my it lit up. I'm trying to get back to my notes from last week on Glockbusters.
>> Smart. I mean, I can read it to you. Hold on. Let me find it. Uh >> yeah, it's a good thing, too, because I have no fucking idea. Oh, boy. Did we do the have it your way? Okay. So, I will have to go to Discord. It's good thing I wrote them down. I'm going to have to guess them myself, though. I don't know where I wrote them. Did I do it? Oh, it's here. I've got I've got them. I've got them. Got them. I should have paused. Right. Last week's N. Okay. The gap between his head and soldiers shoulders is broken.
>> N. >> I think I know. I think and Ara is winning by one, right? >> Absolutely. Yeah. I absolutely don't know, but I could guess. >> Yeah, obviously I'm guessing as well. >> No, but I think Yeah. Okay. But it sounded like you had a good >> between his neck head and shoulders is broken. >> I would Yeah. Neck neckrons. >> I think it's neckrons. >> It's neckrons. Neck >> gone. Neck gone. Neckron. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Good. Well done, boys. Now, did Paul get that right? Um, hold on. Cuz Paul did.
Where the fuck is Paul? Did I read his email and then just disregard it? I really like that he you emailed in by the way, Paul. Um, it's Mark. Shit. Fuck you, Paul. You should have emailed in. Um, I'm pretty sure I had answers from Paul. Anyway, >> what about our brother? >> Yeah, he got two points. >> Mark did because he gave the reason why it's Nekron. >> Oh, that's really good. Wow. >> He He literally just wrote cuz neck. Um, he said he's not super confident, which is unusual for him. Right. Number two, V. Um, she spent 20 minutes on that sunbed and came out looking no different.
>> Votan. >> Yeah, I thought this was it was Van, but I don't know the reason why. >> Uh, well, Van, >> is that it right? >> No. He went on the sunbed, but came out with Van. >> Nan. >> Very good, Martin. Very good. That's two points. You're neck and neck now, boys. >> A [clears throat] M. Uh, also, um, Mark wrote vampire. Hold on. We also >> So, so I mean, he got he got two points for the first one, so actually he's not doing that bad, right? Um, and Jim got Nekron, and he just didn't get the other two, he said. So, fair play. Um, am he's out there again mowing the same bit of grass for the third time this week.
So I think it's Astromearum, but that's because I can't think of anything else in 40k that's a >> could be adeptus mechanicum as well. >> I'll let you I'll let you to commit on that. >> Yeah. >> Uh I mean to be fair, I thought about both. I cannot find a reason. I mean >> mowing the same grass. Adeptist Mechanica. I'm going to go with Astraum anyway. I think >> you know astroturf is fake grass. >> Astroturf is fake grass.
>> So astro milit I have no idea. >> I I well I'll say one and you say the other. So >> So are now standing by adeptus mechanicum. >> It [clears throat] is Astra militarum. >> Yeah. Why? >> Because Astra is grass, >> right? >> Oh, I was kind of I was kind of right then, wasn't I? >> Yeah. And militarum he's militant about it. So he's doing it three times a day regimented. >> Oh, okay. Yeah. >> So that's probably more confident than apply then. >> Yeah. And then you would have got two points instead. Now you have flipped the score. You are now one ahead of um and um your brother said he he he cheated.
He basically said Adeptus Mechanicus or Astros Meditarum. So >> can't really give you points there, mate. Um the last one is haunting me. He says, I think I'm running out. So fuck it. Anyway, but time is running out. It's an email. Uh oh, we sent it an hour ago. Okay, fair. Because I did the thing right this week. I enjoyed those last weeks, by the way. Um, >> that's good. >> Hold on. Let me look up how many how many letters this has. Um, if it's one word or two. Okay, so this is W. Okay. >> Mhm. Mhm.
>> Mhm. >> The gap. Oh, that's last week's um saw this tall skinny b. I'll I'll send these in the in the group now. >> Saw [snorts] a tall skinny bloke at the bus stop barely made a sound as he walked past. >> Okay, >> I'm happy with that. I'm very proud of that one. Um W. Hold on, let me double check. Fuck's sake. >> Yeah, >> that was W. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Hold on. I mean, this is great listening, isn't it? Okay. WH. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> Dog was sprinting around the park like he was at war. >> Okay. Say battle either work. Wh I don't need to do a space there for that. >> Are we sticking at 40k? >> Yeah, more or less. [laughter] >> I see. Okay. Um >> I think I know what that is. And then H.
The kid finger blasted her to hell. [laughter] >> Okay. Okay. >> A kid. >> A kid. Wow. He's a teenager. That's when they do all that stuff. You don't do that when you get older, really. Um, >> yeah. >> Okay. And that's H. >> So, w and then H. >> WW. Yes. >> Nice. I should um a part of me wants to do like all the same letters to make it even harder because then you can't like Google what the fuck. Right, there you go. That is this week's what was it called? Grotbusters.
Now we are officially done with all the planned stuff, I think. Oh, this week's album. Okay.
>> Yeah, let's hear it. >> Okay. the the the um thing that I was listening to most this week. >> Do you know what I mean? >> You know the you know the segment, right? >> Um hold on. Uh fuck sake. >> You two the Joshua Tree. Now I want to just say I kind of think you two are shit right >> at at what? Making music. >> Music. >> Oh yeah. >> Not Not us too. like the band you two.
[laughter] >> I hope uh that would have been a good joke if you you two. But the Joshua Tui [laughter] is it's I have to give it to them. It's quite good. >> It's from the 80s. So if you need something to >> They were in the 80s, weren't they? >> Apparently they did some good stuff. >> Yeah, >> that one and a baby. Yeah. >> Yeah. Um right, there we go. We can officially wrap up, but we should talk about um Fra then. >> Yeah, you guys need to talk about >> Fra Chad Powers. Ch.
>> Next week, >> next week we should have we should do the slow as a snail because there was two or three questions in the previous >> Wasn't that with Albert though? >> I think we did a first a fast first as a race car with us as well. the previous one. So, the previous episode, but I didn't race car and there was two or three questions that were very meaty, so we can do them next next. >> So, we don't have to. Yeah. Nice, nice, nice, nice, nice, nice, nice. >> And then, yes, free. >> So, yeah, if you don't want to hear about anime or chap, you can turn off. Um, >> you cannot turn off. How dare you?
>> Now, now we secretly will talk about the secret, >> how to actually be good. Um, so I I wish you know how I don't like spoilers this I wish I didn't know. I got a little bit spoiled. I'm not annoyed. Um, where you said go back and watch the first episode and it got me thinking and this is why I don't like hearing stuff because then I was expecting some big twist and I spent all the time working out are they in this simulation? Is she really dead? Does she know? And I came up with all these theories, right?
>> And it was none of that. It was just a normal show. >> Yeah. But I that's why I don't like And like if you say I'm getting better. I am getting better. But if if if if you're like, "Oh, I really liked Alien Earth." >> Mhm. >> In fairness, that wouldn't be that bad cuz that's quite a big commitment. But yeah, exactly. If you're like, "This is fucking amazing." And then I go in. So anyway, I have I finished it and it was amazing, but I knew it was amazing from episode one. Like I I was already committed in, right? And the style is different, but but everything about the anime is good.
>> Yeah. Excellent. Actually, the acting season 2 is coming out uh in a few months. >> Um >> No. Yeah, a few weeks. >> Is it a few weeks now? >> They said the start of Yeah. Yeah. I don't trust them though. Um, I just I was expecting this bit. I thought it was only one season. I thought it was a min season. I didn't realize it was a rolling thing. So, I I I was expecting an end, right? And when it said the journey to ender continues, >> no spoilers. I thought that was the the end of it.
>> No, no. My my my comment was because of the relationship of of him and her. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Because the the the first episode is the only moment that you see them really together. >> Yeah. Yeah. And when you have 28 28 episodes of her remembering him >> literally remembering all the greatest memories >> and then you go back to the first episode and and >> I've forgotten he was old >> and she's crying which which in her is so so weird because she doesn't cry. >> Yeah.
>> Uh that's why >> Yeah. Well, so I mean you knew her whole personality changed because of him, right? >> Yeah. >> Now I basically consider myself a himl, right? I go around world. I I I never right. >> Let me let me say this thing. The last the last episode I think it's the last episode. He says one phrase that I think it's you completely. >> Was it a good one though? >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I actually think so because uh he says when when they say uh goodbye, he doesn't say goodbye. He doesn't want to to say goodbye because then he says when we meet again it will be embarrassing if we have said a big goodbye, right?
>> So he never says big goodbyes because we will see each other again. >> Yeah. >> And it's kind of what you do as well like when you when we say goodbye it's like yeah goodbye. >> See yeah I don't I I I [laughter] >> Right. because it's the same it's the same principle. We will talk literally after work and and we will see each other again and you know >> and I actually think that with with my and this is something that happens in my life. It always happened the most important people in my life. I don't do big things uh when we meet or when we leave.
>> It's it's like an ongoing relationship that it's it's not broken >> and you don't say goodbye. He didn't say hello effusively if you would know what I mean. >> Yeah. I I I mean at that ending was when I thought actually I I share a lot of similarities with with him like the whole attitude the liking to impact people's lives. I'm not saying I'm a hero cuz I don't think I but if I were in that world I would like >> he he was not a hero actually. >> Exactly right. He just You do like to um try and impact people's lives if you can positively. I I that's how my general feeling is like I don't want to I mean obviously I piss people off and some people hate my guts, right? Um it's divisive. I don't think anyone hated him in the real world cuz he was saving them. Um but I definitely thought and then when he did the whole goodbye thing I was like you know what I agree with basically everything he's saying here.
And but the one thing that did resonate me with a bit was she was a bit of a cunt to not come and see him more. Um and obviously that's what her whole journey is, right? cuz >> Yeah. >> Um and and that's why she cried and blah blah blah. And I understood it, but it hurt me that she didn't come back. He said, "I thought I was going to die before I saw you again." Right. >> Um >> Yeah. >> And uh he was really looking forward to going on a road trip with her again. Right. >> Well, I mean, he is clearly in love with her. Like mly in love with her.
>> Even he even puts the the ring on her finger. >> Yeah. And and I that's how I read it. She's realizing that she is in love with him as well in a >> in very late which is the sad point that she's realizing that she's in love with someone who died many many years ago >> and but she doesn't even realize that she's in love yet. >> Yeah. [snorts] >> You know because she doesn't even know what love is. >> So she's 1500 years old. It's a bit sad that she only just But then this is the Elvin way. It seems they're estranged from each other anyway. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Because they are not used to having relationships with anyone. >> Yeah. >> Um and something that I think it's very cool is the whole journey is her going to to heaven to meet him. >> Wait, Martin, you want to watch this, don't you? >> I did. >> I mean, this is I forgot you watch. Yeah, these are spoilers. It happens in the first episode. Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah, but we're also giving him thoughts that he he needs to develop himself. >> That's fine. It's fine. I'm I think I'm generally not as big of anime fan as you guys, so I'll I'll give it a watch.
>> This isn't really anime, though. >> Aren't huge. >> It's not a show that that has plot twist or that has, you know, it's very very soft and and the pace is always the same. So, it's not about about spoilers really. It's about the the emotions about the >> the relationships and how he how she grows and how cool she is actually. >> Although I still I still I'm hurt that she did. Don't get me wrong, I said it already. She learned from it. But I put myself so like I don't know if it's burying emotions would be the good way to say this. But like if if I'm upset by something, I'm like do you know what?
don't worry about it because it's not really that big and and things will just heal themselves. They'll they will eventually fix, right? And obviously there's there's levels of that and and there's different things that are bigger and smaller, but that's generally where my brain tries to take me. And I was just put myself and instantly when I realized it when I watched back the first episode, I think I was like for [laughter] 50 fucking years I had this I would have been harboring this resentment that she hasn't come back because I love road trips, right? I love them. and they spent 10 years together. So anyway, but he didn't he didn't harbor animosity.
>> But he knew because he knew that she was like that. >> Yeah. But that's like me with you and the mic. I know what you're like. So I can I can change that by buying you the mic cuz then I know you're not going to do it, right? But I'll just do it and then there's no like bad blood or annoyance cuz >> Yeah. Yeah. That's exactly it actually. >> It's just like I I know that person is this way so why change it or or why get annoyed by it? So he knew, but it would still hurt after 50 years. >> I know. >> I know. It's It's heartbreaking. It's fucking heartbreaking to to to realize that he will he will never get to say uh that he loves her or, you know, uh because he doesn't even >> he loved her enough not to bring it up and not to burden her with it as well.
>> Exactly. >> Um it was interesting to see the other guys in the group saying they they read the show differently. Um, I I don't like I can't remember what they didn't I don't think they went into it, but um it's very good. I'm going to I'm looking forward to watching it again without waiting for this thing to happen at the end, this big moment that you told me would happen. >> Um, and moment will happen. >> And I absolutely love more than anything else. That's not true. It's a big plus that they bring characters in and then the characters go away. So many animes that I watch, you get the core five or six characters in the first episode or two and then that's it for the next 10 years.
>> Um >> I think that it's brilliant that they can just >> And when they bring one one character is it's forever like it's a new character. >> Exactly. Yeah. Well, we're not here like you've got people who are leaving coming in and going as a as a party. I'm not saying they die or anything. M like they might do, they might not. It wasn't just there's a there's a throughput of of characters and it makes it feel more real. >> What did you think about the last fight? >> I thought they've got some good animators in for this.
>> Fucking amazing. >> I don't think I've seen a fight like that. Um and it was >> like I was like, "Fuck me. This is fucking my >> I don't know how they did that. I really don't know how they did it." And it was using um things I've not seen before in fights in anime like different animation style technique or >> Yeah, it also makes me think like they could take this in a lot of places. I I think I don't want them to go into an allout anime battle thing. I like very much where it is, but it does feel like it's building up to something >> where what I really like is that she's so overly powerful. Like she is >> the most everyone in the world. Yeah.
and and she's so casual about it like she doesn't even care about it and and at this point it's not like she is is um throwing all that power. It's is it's the other, you know. So I I it's funny how she has so much power and she doesn't she's she doesn't brag about it. She doesn't use it. >> If you had those What kind of character do you think you'd be if you had this? You've been around 1500 years, you know. >> I guess you get used to your >> love magic. Well, I take you in painting for example. Do you ever think >> I'm 100 times better than this person at painting if they're asking for your advice or you're like I would really just like to give this person advice?
>> I kind of >> that's how I think she is, right? She's like, >> it doesn't define her that she has these powers. She is It does make me laugh that she sleeps in though, like fuck's sake. Um I think that she as a character is, you know, I I always discussed this with my sister-in-law and Denise. >> Uh I never went I never thought I wanted to meet a character, a fictional character, [laughter] >> with F. >> I really I really wish to because she's so weird in so many ways and uh I don't know. It's it's very it's it's well it's cool >> except that she might dick you over by not meeting you for 50 years when she when all you want to do is meet her for 50 years but again she's learning and she's on an art of course [laughter] >> um so Martin is decent. You will enjoy it and um I'm stopping now not cuz I want to >> because we have to.
>> Okay. >> Yeah. I'd I could I we will now we can talk outside our now of the podcast. >> Yeah. You guys can talk. We can also come back to when I've seen a few episodes.
>> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Chad Powers. >> Very short. Very, very short. >> Six episodes or something, right? >> It's like it's >> six episodes. >> Very It leaves you like like >> Yeah. Start with everything. It's like don't leave me here. Fucking keep going. >> It's like our podcasts. Do you remember that time we did um we cut an episode in two? We literally just stopped halfway through. We recorded it once but we only uploaded half and people were annoyed by that cuz we were in a juicy topic and then we just stopped it.
>> Um >> and and when we followed it, we didn't follow the juicy topic which was the worst. [laughter] >> Oh god. >> Yeah, that's what people were mad. >> We did it in real life. Um Chad Powers. I liked every single part of it and I think the story is good and I like the gay dude and I like that he hasn't said he's gay but he you know he's gay because he said things that admit that he's gay but I really like the fact it it might be a weird thing to comment on it but him being gay isn't the thing he is who he is and he is gay rather than an outlandish gay person.
>> I mean we are we are already used to gay people existing right? So why why make anything about it? >> Exactly. >> Also think that it's it's just a lack of him having a relationship with anyone that tells you anything about his sexuality. I mean for all we know he is not gay but >> No. He said um he said Chad was like as when he was not Chad he's like go and fucking like I don't know I don't remember what he says but like basically suck him off to get some information. He's like no dude I don't like bears. Um which so you >> say that he did say that. So, so we know he's gay, but I think and it's a weird thing for me to bring up now for some random reason, but I'm I'm it's because I think what we spoke about Monty, I'm I'm I'm annoyed that it's a big deal that someone is this thing, right?
Rather than that's who they are and they're just living their life and then the circumstances it will come up that that person, do you know what I mean? He's not in the show because he's gay at all. >> He's just he is gay. Um, and he makes me laugh >> quite a lot. a lot of uh I thought there were some some a few well-written characters in this show. Um I I kind of agree with Arnell that it ends really really a abruptly. I feel like a lot of shows these days. >> Yeah. And it's it's I feel like shows these days a lot of the time are written in a way where it's there's just not an ending at all. Like the first season will have no wrap up, no conclusion of any kind.
>> And I believe um the studio didn't want to commit to it. So, this is basically a pilot >> and then if >> it feels like half season. >> Yeah, it feels like a half season. >> They didn't want to put in enough budget to take it. I think the I think the full season's going to have like 12 episodes or something. >> Um >> and they just have >> Well, I think I think season 2 might have 12. >> Ah, I see. I see. >> Like I think that they just literally didn't the actor's not popular. >> Um they didn't want to put blah blah blah. He's becoming more popular now. He is quite popular >> but before this he like now he's in three or two films now I think >> he has been popular for a while.
>> Yeah but he's Yeah. And he's starring in at least a few really big movies but it's a that's a different thing altogether is the whole like A-list in Hollywood is just not really a thing anymore. Like Glenn Powell is the kind of guy who should be a first build like box office draw but just isn't because like no one is. Um >> he also his film was rubbish >> to be fair. >> Which one was that? >> Running man. Like >> Oh, did you see Running Man? >> Yeah, that I'm sure spoilers if you're like me.
>> I've heard I've heard um I've heard mixed reviews. >> Is the the one you said you watch with >> in German? Yeah, I need to watch in English. >> Yeah, you watch in German. I I remember. I remember. Yeah. >> He starred also in the that movie with um some sort of murder mystery kind of >> the blonde girl. The blonde girl. >> Sydney Sweeney. >> Sydney Sweeny. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Comedy to become a millionaire. He's killing his family members, right? >> No. >> Then here's another one. This is another film. >> Yeah. This one is a romance.
>> I see the one you're thinking about. What is that called? Sunburn. >> Maybe it's not out yet. It was an advert when I saw this film. >> Afterburn. Oh, fuck. I don't remember. Sorry. I should know this. >> This is the >> Barry Keegan. >> Yeah. I mean, [snorts] I think um I haven't seen a comedy that good in a long time is what I thought. And the I think it's much more uh English humor in that um it's awkward. the situations are just awkward, right?
But they're in themselves are outrageously like outrageous. And >> yeah, >> and also what I love is because he's slightly retarded. People can't be like, "Dude, you're you're lying." >> They're like, I'm too polite to just be like, "Dude, what the fuck are you talking about?" >> Yeah. >> And and then they just accept it after like four weeks. They're like, "All right, he's fucking weird, >> but he chose to do a retarded as a character [laughter] instead of playing a normal person >> just came out. I think maybe it's easier for him to it's good and and the sister I really like and also I liked her reaction without any spoilers to I think I was not expecting that. I was expecting something else much more like Hollywood vibe kind of. Do you know what? Okay.
>> Yeah. >> And I quite like that she's >> that through that. I have mixed feelings with that reaction because I don't think that it's it's fully in character. >> I think it's more about >> she's got so much anger inside her though. >> She's very humiliated. >> Yeah. And also it's the livelihood and it's her father. >> Yeah. probably maybe it's just an explosion of things but I felt like she was um very um how do I say it >> took a lot on the chin normally like >> yeah everything she was on the bench you know everyone treated her kind of bad so she she was not used to speaking out loud to to people like and and their own her own feelings >> development >> and I guess you could say that probably it's an explosion of all these things um towards Chad, >> but I don't know. I mean, I liked it, but at the same time, I thought I I
don't recognize the character maybe as as much. >> Yeah. >> But I don't want to go into spoilers here, but >> if you if you are going to watch you, you haven't, don't listen, but I like that she said, "You've I've lost a friend." And I think that he was the first friend that she'd had. >> At least it seemed that way, right? >> It did. Yeah, for sure. For sure. >> And that I think was her I think maybe she'll come around, but that was why her betrayal. She's like that was the thing that she was pissed off and then at the end she was like felt like that was the big thing.
>> I think so too. I think she basically feels that the Russ so the the real guy almost like killed Chad Powers. >> Yeah. But but I agree a million%. But I think it's so disproportionate >> the reaction and and she she even says spoiler alert so please don't hear if you she she even says that I I I hoped you you killed yourself. >> Yeah. >> And it's like >> Jesus fuck like this is this is a lot. And she she is almost her eyes are almost popping up from from freight when she's >> if anything I like that it's dis disproportionate because it is disproportionate like she it is too much. She's too too but it's because it's it comes from emotion >> and her dad just had died.
>> Yeah, exactly. She hasn't really had any time to think about it. She just finds this out and then he shows up and she's like you're dead to me. >> Yeah. >> And then you know all of that comes out. It'd be like me losing my >> interest. It'll be interesting to see how that develops in the future seasons. I think she's going to come around. >> Yeah, for sure. I mean, >> and they'll obviously make love and have babies. >> Um, of course. >> I Yeah, it's great. So, that was that was literally 20 minutes on anime and Chad Powers. >> Yeah. You're welcome.
>> Yeah. If you haven't seen those things, why are you still here? Uh, that's what you got to question yourself because that was boring as fuck if you don't like those shows. Um, that is the I'll I'll show >> Well, that's Yeah. Well, we gave them a little bit too much information. I think >> with with Denise, I understood something that works very well. She she likes spoilers in a way that when she's not interested in in a show and she she thinks that she's not going to >> if I say some spoilers that are interesting, she will say, "Oh, that's quite interesting. Let's watch it." >> And then because she forgets about the spoilers and then uh but she would she would not watch it if I spoiled >> I mean that is fair and I think I've had that in the past before I had this hyper sensitivity to um spoilers. Uh what what what did we do? No. Did we do N already?
We did. Right. That's the old Gropbusters. What's the new ones? >> Yeah, you've done WH and H. >> Okay. Why did I I've not written them down. What did I Huh? Okay. Well, no one needs to We don't need to record this. Um see [snorts] you later, guys. Um, we do indeed have a way to communicate with us outside and you can ask questions on that platform to the artists weekly and and loads of other stuff. And that is of course called Discord.
